William R. “Bill” Lawson, age 72, of Sidney, passed away peacefully Saturday, November 14, 2020 at his residence.
He was born October 27, 1948 in Pruden, Tennessee, to the late Joe Lawson and Flora (Lambdin) Lawson. He was preceded in death by his wife of many years, the love of his life, Dee (Whittaker) Lawson.
Surviving are children; Raahkiim (Margy) Bey of Kettering, Deb Bodenmiller of Sidney, Joe (Katie) Lambert of Sidney, Mary Massengill of Sidney, John Davis of Sidney, Polly Lawson of Sidney, eight grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, brothers; Joe Lawson Jr. and “Johnnie” Lawson of Sidney and Mike (Debbie) Lawson of Sidney.
He was preceded in death by daughter, Sally Davis, sister, Connie Kelly and brother, Jerry Lawson.
Bill retired after 43 years of service at Copeland Corporation, Sidney. He was the longest surviving President of the IUE. He was instrumental in organizing the Democratic Party in Shelby County. He had the pleasure of shaking hands with President Clinton and Vice President Al Gore, and passed the football on the tarmac at Dayton International Airport to Vice President Al Gore. He was an avid fan of the Ohio State Buckeye’s, the Bengals and the University of Tennessee football teams.
Family and friends may visit on Friday, November 20, 2020, from 4 – 6 p.m. at the Adams Funeral Home, 1401 Fair Road, Sidney. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 21, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor David Botner officiating. Burial will follow at Graceland Cemetery, Sidney.
