Thomas E. Martin, age 33, of Sidney, passed away on Saturday, May 25, 2024, at Wilson Health Emergency Room. He was born on September 5, 1990, in Piqua to Sara (Murtz) Shields and Tom Martin. On December 20, 2014, he married his high school sweetheart, Kayela Wilson, and she survives.
In addition to his parents and wife, Thomas is survived by two children: Joanna and Leo; stepfather: Mark Shields; mother: Angela Martin; father-in-law and mother-in-law: Tyler and Pam Wilson of Sidney; siblings: Travis (Jessie) Martin of Piqua, Christy (Austin) Saneholtz of Montpelier, Lauren (Ryan) Freisthler of Sidney, Blair (Jamie) Wilson of Anchorage, AK, Elliot Wilson of Sidney and Brooke (Alan) Carrig of Fenton, MI; grandparents: Patricia Martin, Larry and Charlene Murtz, Terry Echols, Sue Hand, Lawrence and Donna Wilson and Melvin and Alice Shields; nieces and nephews: Marilyn, Carmen, Barrett, Abigail, Lucille, Eleanor, Samuel, Leah, Claire, Kingsley, Tate and Boone; and his beloved dog: Duke. Thomas was preceded in death by great grandpa: Leonard Schaffner; grandmas: Pansey Wyke and Charlene Echols; and grandpas: Harry Hand and William Martin.
Thomas was a 2009 graduate of Sidney High School and a 2013 graduate of Otterbein College. He was a member of Sigma Delta Phi Fraternity. Thomas was employed at Honda Development and Manufacturing of America. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, where he was the Treasurer. Thomas loved spending time with his family and watching and cheering for his children in all their activities. He was their biggest fan. He also enjoyed watching Duke basketball, especially with Joanna and Leo. Thomas was always ready for another family vacation to the beach or lake and loved experiencing the Disney magic with his family this past fall. He was a volunteer at several different events and organizations.
Funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, June 3, 2024, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 120 West Water Street, Sidney, with Rev. Steve Edmiston officiating. Burial will follow in Graceland Cemetery in Sidney. Family will receive family & friends from 1:00-4:00 pm on Sunday at Adams Funeral Home, 1401 Fair Road, Sidney. For his funeral, please wear colorful clothing or Hawaiian shirts in honor of Thomas as he loved wearing them with his family.
