Thelma Francis Henman

Thelma Francis Henman, age 88, of Sidney, died peacefully on Thursday, October 6, 2022, the day after her beloved Reds finished their season.  Thelma was born on March 23, 1934, to the late George and Anna (Tieben) Speelman and married the love of her life, the late James Leo Henman, in 1955.  They spent most of their life together in Sidney, where they raised three children.  Thelma was a teacher’s aide at Central Elementary for 30 years and, along with Jim, was a custodian at First Federal Savings and Loan for 15 years and local law firm from the early 1990’s to retiring in 2017.  She could order the disorganized, always leaving her signature thumbprint of care.  Thelma lived her life following the wisdom to leave it better than you found it.  Farming was in her blood and her garden was visited at harvest time by the locals where they would find grocery bags of fresh potatoes prepared for purchase.  Her strawberries picked from her own garden were an anticipated treat in the early summer.  In time, Thelma was known to grace family gatherings with old-fashion cream pie, which became her most requested contribution.  Thelma loved and treasured her six grandchildren: Blake, Kasey, Brandon, Drew, Bryan and Jenna; her two great grandchildren: Enzo and August "Auggie"; and her family and friends.  She was an avid gardener, collector of memorabilia, a die-hard Cincinnati Reds fan and loved playing euchre.  Thelma enjoyed the fellowship with friends at the Senior Center and a local fitness center intown.  Thelma’s life-long prayer was “to keep walking and working” and she did her part to the very best of her abilities throughout her life.  In recent years, she reflected on how truly blessed her life had been.  She was a much-loved wife, mother, grandmother, friend and neighbor and will be deeply missed.

Thelma was preceded in death by her husband: Jim; sister: Levadia Barga; and twin brothers: Gene Speelman and George Speelman, Jr.  Thelma is survived by her daughters: Beverly (Matthew) Hanson and Helen (Dennis) Koesters; and son Dennis (Jennifer) Henman.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Angels Catholic Church at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, October 11, 2022, with Fr. Andrew Reckers as Celebrant.  A private burial will follow at St. Louis Catholic Cemetery in North Star, OH.
