Richard J Hughes

Richard J. Hughes, age 91, of Sidney, passed away peacefully at his residence, May 8, 2026, surrounded by his family. He was born December 18, 1934, in Sidney, to Charles Hughes and Elizabeth (Buirley) Hughes.

He was married to Ethel (Maxwell) Hughes and she preceded him in death September 11, 2020. He was also preceded in death by five brothers and five sisters.

Richard is survived by two sons; Richard E. (Deborah) Hughes and Larry (Sherry) Hughes of Sidney, daughter, Jennifer Hughes of Horatio, Ohio, thirteen grandchildren, numerous great and great-great grandchildren, and special friend, Nancy McClain.

Richard was a member of the Sidney Baptist Church and attended Sidney High School. He retired from Ross Aluminum in Sidney, after 35 years of faithful service. He was a member of the US Army National Guard.  He enjoyed birds and horses, working in his wood shop, he was also a wheeler dealer, trading items for items.   Richard loved spending time with his family and friends and will be sadly missed by all.

Family and friends may visit on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, from 9:00 – 11:00 a.m. at the Adams Funeral Home, 1401 Fair Road, Sidney. Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. John Butts and Pastor Jeff Greene officiating. There will be a full military service hosted by the Shelby County Veterans. Burial will follow at Shelby Memory Gardens in Sidney.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Wounded Warriors  in Richard’s memory.
