Rev. James T. “Jim” Johnson, age 78, of Sidney, passed away on May 24, 2023, at Fair Haven Nursing Home. He was born on November 5, 1944, in Wild Rose, WI, to the late Lawrence and Nellie (Runnels) Johnson. On February 14, 1998, he married Janice (Burton) Johnson and she survives.
In addition to his wife, Jim is survived by six step children: Greg (Jan) Whitsett of Anna, Scott (Deb) Whitsett of Huber Heights, Cindy (John) Hickman of DeGraff, Jon (Linda) Whitsett of West Liberty, Jeff (Chris) Whitsett of DeGraff and Shelley (John) Schwieterman of Maria Stein; as well as 75+ grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. He is also survived by sisters: Jane (Peter) Brogle of Minnesota, Kathy Pohle of New Mexico, Judy Johnson (Gene Fritz) of Wisconsin and brother-in-law: Herbert (Tammy) Burton of Sidney. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by stepdaughter: Vivian Russell; brothers: David Johnson and Jerry Johnson and sister: Barbara Johnson.
Jim earned a Bachelor's Degree in Education and a Master's Degree from the University of Wisconsin. He was a decorated US Army veteran, having served in Vietnam. Jim moved to Sidney in 1988 to teach at Sidney Christian School where he served as administrator for one year. He devoted 25 years to serving God in the ministry and founded Word of Life Ministries.
Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, May 31, 2023, at Adams Funeral Home, 1401 Fair Road, Sidney, Ohio, with Pastor Allen Leach officiating. Family will receive friends from 10:00 – 11:00 AM on Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Cedar Point Cemetery in Pasco with full military honors provided by US Army and Shelby County Veterans Squad. Someday his wife and love of his life, Janice, will rest next to him.
