Phyllis Bowers Obituary

Phyllis Josephine Bowers, 87, died Monday, February 9, 2026, at Danbury Senior Living in Tipp City where she had been a resident for the past two years.

Phyllis was born in Lima, Ohio on September 18, 1938 to the late Leleah (Ley) Bowers and Milton Bowers. She graduated from Sidney High School with the Class of 1956. After graduation she joined the US Marine Corp serving from 1956-1960, stationed in several locations: Quantico, Virginia; California, and Hawaii, where she was stationed when it became an US state in 1959.

After her military service she returned to Sidney for a brief time and then moved to Dayton in 1960 where she worked at several places: Earl Schieb Paint and Body; NCR; and Dr. Laura Pollock. In 1986 she graduated from the Sinclair Community College School Of Nursing and went on to work at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital and Miami Valley Hospital, retiring in 2006.

Phyllis was an adventurous soul with a mischievous side and a dry sense of humor. She greatly enjoyed traveling the world and spending time with her family and friends.

She is survived by her sister Rita (Tom) Curtner, of Sidney and brother Mick (Bobbie) Bowers, of Surprise, Arizona, nieces and nephews: Julie (David) Winkler, Nicolle (David) Marchus, Scott Counts, Mark Counts, Michael (Amy Franz) Counts, and Joseph (Missy) Bowers. Other survivors include her great friends Donna Guy, Mary Lou O’Malley, and Barbara Ross.

She was preceded in death by her dear cousins Thomas, Norma, and Jeanie Warburton and great friends Mary Ellen White, Janet Kinsel, Ann Covert, and Nancy and David Kark.

Phyllis will be cremated and a Celebration Of Life scheduled at a later date.
