Perry Long, age 84, of Sidney, beloved husband, father, and grandfather passed away on July 9, 2023, at his home in Sidney, Ohio. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched. He will be remembered for more than 40 years of service as a teacher in Kansas and at Anna Schools, his endless volunteer work at Agape Food Pantry and Wilson Memorial Health System, missionary work, and faithful service to the First United Methodist Church.
Perry’s infectious smile and incredible dry sense of humor, combined with his faith and kindness to all he met was a testament to the life he lived and shared with those around him.
Growing up in Ada, Ohio, Perry learned his work ethic on his family farm, the first farm in Hardin County. Perry had a Master’s Degree from McPherson college, and took joy in teaching his children a ‘historical fun fact’ about every city they passed through. He deeply loved his wife, children, and grandchildren and spoke about them frequently until his last day.
He is survived by his devoted wife of more than 59 years, Alma, his children Patricia (David) McKay, Sidney, Ohio, Anthony (Julie) Long, Evergreen, Colorado and his grandchildren Ceanna (Alec) Madden, Jonathan Long, and Jessica (Brett) Sullivan, and great grandchild Elias Sullivan. Perry was proceeded in death by his parents, Phillip and Ruby Long, and sister, Joyce Welch, and is survived by his brother Phil Long and sister Anita Dearth.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations be made to the Agape Food Pantry, located in Sidney, Ohio.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Adams Funeral Home, 1401 Fair Road, Sidney, on Thursday, July 13, 2023, from 5:00 – 6:30 p.m., with a short service to start at 6:30 p.m., led by Jane Madden, Pastor, Sidney First United Methodist Church in Sidney.
A special thanks to Wilson Hospice, especially Barb, Lisa, and Randy, and the many friends that visited Perry during the last three years.
