Mary Sue (Tate) Calhoun, age 68, of Sidney, passed away on Friday, August 27, 2021, at Lima Memorial Hospital. She was born in Sidney on January 10, 1953, to the late Ora and Mary (Click) Tate. On February 20, 1971, she married Leon Calhoun, Sr., and he survives.
In addition to her husband, Mary is survived by three children: Joanna (Clint Shaw) Calhoun and Angela (Matthew) Gold, both of Sidney and Jason Calhoun of Jackson Center; brothers and sisters: Ann (Dave) Schmidt of Akron, Leota (Jim) Muhlenkamp of Sidney, Will (Bonnie) Tate of Kent and Larry (Becky) Tate, Debbie Hicks and Carol (Don) Hopkins, all of Sidney; grandchildren: Chelsea (Chris) Terry, Brandon (Erin) Hughes, Noah Calhoun, Natalie (John Nelson) Calhoun, Justin Gates, Candon Calhoun, Jaydon Calhoun, Kaitlyn (Matthew) Glass, Hailey Gold, Zack Gold, Avery Howell and Megan Hilyard; thirteen great grandchildren; special school friend: Elaine McClain; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one son: Leon Calhoun, Jr.; and brothers and sisters: Roy Tate, Earnie Tate, Wanda Tate, Bessie Jackson and Melinda Tate.
Mary was a 1971 graduate of Sidney High School. She was of the Christian faith. Mary was an officer for American Cancer Society in Sidney. She worked for several years as a preschool teacher before retiring from NK Parts. Mary enjoyed listening to Vestal and Harry Goodman and the Gaither Vocal Band. She was an avid Chicago Cub’s fan and was very happy when they won the World Series in 2016. Mary enjoyed being the neighborhood mom to the Green Tree Hill Kids and countless others.
Funeral service will be held at 12:00 PM on Thursday, September 2, 2021, at Adams Funeral Home, 1401 Fair Road, Sidney, OH with Pastor Jeff Hill and Pastor Mark Strunk officiating. Burial will follow in Graceland Cemetery in Sidney. Family will receive friends from 10:00 Am – 12:00 PM on Thursday at the funeral home.
