Larry Maier Obituary

On Wednesday, October 16, 2019, Larry Maier finished his Earthly Race and heard the Lord say “Well done, good and faithful servant”. Larry Edward Maier, loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, was born on May 25, 1945 to Floyd and Pauline (Snyder) Maier in Lima, OH. He graduated from Lima Senior High School in 1963 and later studied Electrical Engineering at Edison State Community College, earning his degree in 1981. Larry proudly served our country with the United States Navy on assignment in Vietnam on the U.S.S. Fletcher Destroyer. During his tour, he saw many beautiful places and particularly loved Australia. After his four years of military service, he was employed by Westinghouse in Lima and then by Copeland/Emerson Climate Technology in Sidney. He spent the next 38 years at Copeland/Emerson, putting his extraordinary problem solving and analytical abilities to good use and finally retiring in January 2009 as a Senior Analyst Engineer.

Larry married Caroline (Copus) on July 19th, 1969. They were married for 27 years and had three children: Teresa Maier of Columbus, Robert (Gina) Maier of Chattanooga, TN and David (Melinda) Maier of Decatur, TN.

On June 5, 2004 Larry married Cheryl (Middleton/Centers), at which time he gained two "bonus children": Jessica (Shane) Rickert of Anna and Brad (Michelle) Centers of Pickerington, OH. He is also survived by five grandchildren: Keighlynn and Carson Rickert of Anna, OH and Genna, Corban and Noah Maier of Decatur, TN. They were truly his pride and joy!

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings Robert Maier, Dennis Maier and Shirley Maurer, andhis brother-in-law Mel Hotchkiss. He is survived by two sisters: Maxine (Dean) Miner of Chuluota, FL and Edie Hotchkiss of Winter Springs, FL. Other survivors include sisters-in-law Lois Maier of Columbus, OH and Toni Maier of Lima, OH as well as brother-in-law Gene Maurer of Findlay, OH.

Larry lived a life that reflected his deep love for Christ. He served at Pasco Church and Connection Point Church of God, attended Emmaus, and was active in Revive Ohio. His passion was sharing his faith and visiting those in hospitals and nursing homes. He was known for his infectious smile, and his kind and compassionate spirit.

Larry enjoyed going to classic car shows, boating, operating ham radios, and tinkering on cars and projects around the house. His muscular dystrophy made many activities difficult, but despite these challenges, Larry never quit. He continued to love life and he enjoyed many incredible trips with his wife and best friend, Cheryl. Their most memorable journeys were cruises to Alaska and the Caribbean, vacations in Hawaii, and road trips exploring national parks, lighthouses, and lots of beaches. They also became “snowbirds,” escaping to Florida for many winters. Larry and his beloved helpmate created many memories in each adventure and made it a priority to visit family and friends along the way. They truly made a wonderful pair and their example of love and perseverance has been an inspiration for all who know them.

Visitation will be held at Connection Point Church of God at 1510 Campbell Rd., Sidney, OH on Sunday, October 27, 2019 from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm.
