Joan Hipp

Joan Carol (Gray) Howard Hipp, age 73 of Sidney, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 14, 2019 at her residence. She was born on December 29, 1945 in Lenoir County, Kinston, NC to the late Milton Jasper Gray and Leila Taft Potter. She married Thomas Hipp on July 4, 2004 and he survives.  

Joan was preceded in death by one sister: Mildred Waller of Kinston. She is survived by son: Jeffery Howard (Kristi) of Sidney, Ohio; four grandchildren: Cameron, Britney, Alexia and Destiny Howard all of Sidney, Ohio; adopted brother: Oppie Sheffield (Edna) of Kinston, NC; special caregiver: Mary Cooke; special partner in Ministry: Alan Groome.

Joan was a member of Groometown United Methodist Church in Greensboro, NC. She taught pre-teen Sunday school, was the Director of God’s Helping Hands Ministry, Assistant to the Director of the Children’s Program, sang in the choir, was a Certified Lay Servant, Chair of N.O.W., served on the Administration Council, and was the Member Secretary for the church. She worked for 20 years for 5-Star Food Service in Dalton, Georgia as manager/dietician, was the dietician of Kinston Nursing Home and Lenoir Memorial Hospital in Kinston, NC, and worked as manager of Subway in Greensboro, NC. Her favorite scriptures were Psalm 121:1-3 and Luke 7:50. She will be greatly missed.

A Celebration of Life will be held in Joan’s honor on Friday, July 19, 2019 at the First Church of the Nazarene, 1899 Wapakoneta Ave, Sidney, at 10:00 a.m. Pastor Chad Wilson will officiate services. The family asks in lieu of flowers, donations be made to help offset funeral costs. Condolences may be expressed online at theadamsfuneralhome.com.
