Jerry C. Sluss, age 87, of Sidney, passed away on Friday, August 23, 2024, at Wilson Health Emergency Room. He was born on January 25, 1937, in JenkinsJones, WV, to the late William Grady and Loe Virginia (Poindexter) Sluss. On June 27, 1959, he married Joyce (Baker) Sluss, and she survives.
In addition to his wife, Jerry is survived by two children: Warren (Lorie) Sluss of New Paris and David (Naomi) Sluss of Houston; eight grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister and one brother.
Jerry proudly served his country as a member of the US Army during the Vietnam War. He retired from United Telephone after 38 years. Jerry was of the Christian faith. He enjoyed playing horseshoes and softball, and watching basketball and Ohio State football. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. Jerry liked to tinker around with engines, Dodge being his favorite. He loved his yearly vacations spent at Myrtle Beach Travel Park with his “beach family” from North Carolina and Georgia.
Funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, August 29, 2024, at Adams Funeral Home, 1401 Fair Road, Sidney, with Pastor Sheril Water officiation. Burial will follow in Plattsville Cemetery with full military honors presented by Shelby County Veterans and US Army Honor Squad. Family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 PM on Wednesday at the funeral home.
