Janice Marie (Burton) Johnson

Janice Marie (Burton) Johnson, age 85, of Sidney, Ohio, passed away peacefully on August 22, 2024, surrounded by loved ones, in Lima, at the home of her daughter, Cindy Hickman. Her departure marks the end of a life lived with a deep, steadfast faith, boundless love, and an unmatched commitment to serving others.

Born on June 22, 1939, in Sidney, Ohio, Janice was the devoted daughter of the late Millard Burton and Vivian (Wood) Current. She attended Sidney High School and was a proud graduate of Edison State Community College. Janice devoted her life to faith, family, and service.  As one of the original members and an intercessor for Only Believe Ministries in Botkins, Janice dedicated much of her time traveling the world and spreading the gospel and love of Jesus Christ:  offering compassion and hope to those in need.  

Janice married the love of her life and forever valentine, Reverend James Johnson on February 14, 1998, in Sidney, Ohio. Though James and her daughter Vivian (Douglas) Russell of Lebanon, preceded her to Heaven, Janice’s legacy endures through her six remaining children: Greg (Jan) Whitsett of Anna, Scott (Debbie) Whitsett of Tipp City, Cindy (John) Hickman of Lima, Jon (Linda) Whitsett of Bellefontaine, Jeff (Chris) Whitsett of DeGraff, and Shelley (John) Schwieterman of Maria Stein. She was also blessed with numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, each of whom experienced her endless affection and fun-loving nature. 

Janice’s selfless dedication extended beyond her family. Her unfailing acts of kindness were a living testament to Jesus’s love and her desire to share that with everyone she met.  She embraced every opportunity to help those in need, extending help to all without offering judgment or censure. Janice will be remembered first for her faith and service, but also for her unconditional love, vibrant humor, and her delightful sassy side that brought joy and warmth to all who loved her.  

Janice is also celebrating in Heaven with her late sister, Shirley (Donald) Osborne of Sidney, and she is survived by her brother Herbert (Tammy) Burton of Sidney. 

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Janice’s life and legacy on Friday, August 30, 2024. Visitation will be held from 11:00 am until the time of the service at noon at Only Believe Ministries in Botkins, Ohio. Her burial will directly follow at Cedar Point cemetery in Pasco, Ohio.

Janice’s steadfast demonstration of faith, unmatched humor, and selfless dedication have left an indelible mark on the lives of many. Her memory will forever be cherished.
