George W. Snowden, age 94, loving husband to Eva Janice Snowden and father of four, of Sidney, Ohio, passed away on December 31, 2023. George was born to Austin Snowden and Lydia Watkins, on June 30, 1929 in Shelby County, Ohio and was one of 9 children.
He was a loving and caring father that always looked ahead to ensure his children were taken care of. George was a Christian man who raised his children to know and serve the Lord. He was a member of the Wagner Ave Church of God, where he also taught Sunday School. He was a member of the Gideons.
He served his country by joining the Military as part of the "Medical Corps" during the Korean War, for which he received the Commendation ribbon for Efficiency, in 1953.
George wore many hats over the years. He was the president of the Shelby County Health Board 19 out of the 25 years that he served. He was a dealer for Standard Oil of Ohio. He started his own construction company, which he built over 80 houses all over Shelby County. Prior to his retirement in 2020, he and his wife were well known Real Estate agents for 50 plus years, with the last
35 years with Wagner Realty in Sidney, Ohio. He also held a broker’s license.
George is survived by his wife Eva, four children, Kathy Farmer (husband Chris Farmer), Mark Snowden (wife Susan Snowden), Karen Ball (husband Preston David Ball), Sherry Hare (husband Randy Hare), 10 grandchildren (plus spouses), and 15 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters, Eula Jane Madewell, Ella Jean Madewell, and Mary Brunswick and brothers John Snowden and Paul Snowden.
George was predeceased by his parents, Austin and Lydia, his sister, Lucille Lawrence and his brothers, Byron Snowden and Perry Snowden.
The viewing will be on January 5th from 9:00am-11:00am at the Adams Funeral Home, 1401 Fair Road, Sidney, Ohio with the funeral to follow at 11:00am. There will be a military service presented by US Army and Shelby County Veterans at the graveside at Graceland cemetery, Sidney, Ohio following the funeral.
