George R. "Duck" Shropshire, age 75, of Sidney, passed away on Saturday, September 2, 2023, at his residence. He was born on October 26, 1947, in LaFayette, GA, to the late Lon Mack Shropshire Sr. and Mary G. (Wheeler) Shropshire O’Neal.
George came to Sidney, where he met the love of his life, Jacqueline D. (Lee) Shropshire and they united in holy matrimony on December 27, 1967.
George leaves behind to mourn him children: Michael J. Lee of Dayton, Eric (April) Shropshire of Liberty Township, OH, and Shonda L. Shropshire of Sidney; sisters: Faye Ramsey and Geraldine (Doug) Townsend, both of LaFayette, GA; sisters-in-law: Phyllis Smith, Debra K. Lee, and Cindy Allen, all of Sidney; grandchildren: Patrick (Charidy) Shropshire, Jalen Shropshire, Ayla (fiancé Miles Chambers) Shropshire, Landon Shropshire and Gabrielle Shropshire; great grandchildren: Marquis, Malaki and Makira Shropshire, and Zanoviah Chambers; dear friend Curtis (Dawn) Everett; a host of, nieces, nephews, family and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son: Patrick Shropshire; one sister: Mary Dixon; and two brothers: Lon Mack Shropshire, Jr., and Kieth Shropshire.
George attended Walker High Schol of Georgia. He was a great cook and avid fisherman, having his picture in the Sidney Daily News on several occasions. George then became addicted to the "Play Station". He was baptized at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church in October of 2017 where he was a member. George worked at several places in Sidney, including Wagner Manufacturing, Slagle Plumbing, Garland Haswell and EJ Barwick in Georgia. He will be sorely missed.
Celebration of life will be held at 6:00 PM on Friday, September 8, 2023, at Adams Funeral Home, 1401 Fair Road, Sidney, with Rev. James Bowling officiating.
