Douglas Clarke Christie formerly of Sidney, Ohio, passed away August 14, 2021 at 10:16 p.m. at Sunset Village in Sylvania, OH with his loving wife and children by his side. Doug was born in Boston, MA, at Harvard Hospital on January 14, 1946. He was the son of the late Robert and Leone Waters Christie who preceded him in death. On June 13th, 1970, he married the love of his life, Dianne Mavis Christie from Danville, OH who was by his side for the next 51 years. Doug is survived by his two children, Thomas Clarke Christie of Sylvania, OH and Steven Michael (Christina) Christie of Allen, TX. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren, Reagan Christie, Roman Christie, and Ryane Christie of Sylvania, OH and Kaitlyn Christie and Kennedy Christie of Allen, TX. In addition to his children and grandchildren, Doug leaves behind his brother Richard Lee (Millie) Christie of Laguna Hills, CA. He was preceded in death by his sister Barbara Brush of Indianapolis, IN.
Doug is a 1964 graduate of Upper Arlington High School in Columbus, OH. He attended Georgetown College in Kentucky and the Ohio State University. He started his career in the electrical wholesale business in 1967 for Graybar Electric Company. In 1981, he moved his family to Sidney where he served as Branch Manager for FD Lawrence Electric Company. In 2003, Doug entered into a partnership to purchase FDL Automation and Supply Company, becoming President and CEO until his retirement in December, 2008.
Doug earned the distinction of Eagle Scout with the Boy Scouts of America in high school. He was elected President of the Rotary Club of Sidney, OH in 1986 and was later became a Rotary Fellow. Doug was an avid volunteer for Sidney Football, including serving 2 terms as Vespa Quarterback Club President. He was instrumental in getting the new weight room built at the high school as well as the irrigation system installed at Julia Lamb Field. Doug also served as the president of the Men’s Club at the Piqua Country Club.
Doug was an avid golfer, Ohio State Fan, and enjoyed caring for his beautiful property until his health no longer allowed. The family would like to recognize Matt Burchett for his incredible service of the last 10 years, allowing them to stay on the property they loved for 40 years on Doorley Road.
Doug was known as having a straight forward personality and exceptional leadership abilities. He had a great relationship with his employees and passed along his unfailing work ethic which he also instilled in his children.

Family and friends are invited to visit on Wednesday, August 18th from 4:00pm to 7:00pm at Adams Funeral Home in Sidney, OH. A funeral service will be held at 10:00am on Thursday, August 19th at Adams Funeral Home followed by a short graveside service at Graceland Cemetery, also in Sidney. Pastor Darryl Potts will be officiating.
