Douglas Banker Obituary

Douglas T. Banker, age 68, of Sidney, OH, passed away on January 13, 2021 after a month’s long battle with health issues.

Doug was born on October 4, 1952 to Wayne Banker and June Littlefield in Shelbyville, IN.  In 1970, he met Debra York, and they wed in 1971 and were married for 34 years, going on to have two children, Cherish Mari Banker and Todd Wayne Banker.

Doug enlisted in the US Army on January 31, 1972 as a Clerk Typist with a duty station assignment in Frankfurt, Germany.  Doug advanced to the rank of Specialist E-4 and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and M16 Markman Badge. Receiving an Honorable Discharge upon completing his service on January 22, 1975, Doug and his young family returned home stateside to Sidney, Ohio.

Upon returning to his hometown of Sidney, Doug began a 44 year career in the paving industry.  First with B & G Bituminous, then Barrett Paving and then with Freisthler Paving from where he retired in 2016 as a Job Foreman.

Doug was a proud man, determined to provide for his family, while living life to its fullest. Doug was also a passionate boater and could more often than not be found on Indian Lake on weekends aboard his beloved 1990 Chaparral 2550SX Luv It.

Anyone who knew Doug knew that he was always up for a good time with friends and family and he had a fondness for Stroh’s, in a can, or a strong, hot and spicy bloody mary.  In his earlier years, Doug was a bowler participating in leagues. In his later years, Doug enjoyed corn hole and participated in local area tournaments.

Doug was also an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and The Ohio State Buckeyes football teams. Come fall, Doug could be found watching both on the weekends with friends and family.
