Correatha "Rea" Sims, age 95, of Sidney, passed away Tuesday, July 29, 2025 surrounded by her loving family. Correatha Barnes was born July 22, 1930 in Colt, Arkansas to June Avery Barnes and Rosetta (Chism) Barnes who proceeded her in death. She was joined in holy matrimony to the late Deacon Willie Sims who proceeded her in death. Correatha is survived by her loving children, Margaret A. Gathright of Benton Harbor, Michigan, Beverly Tucker (Ronald) Durst of Bedford Heights, Ohio, Jerome Allen (Diane Danzig) Tucker of Sidney, Alvis Cardell (Lisa) Tucker of Dunedin, Florida, Regina Tucker of Sidney, Anthony (Stephanie) Sims of Dayton, Ohio and Tanisha Sims of Sidney. Grandchildren Natalyn (Henry) Newson, Anneta (Shakil) Barlow, Natonya Gathright, Dwan Ward, Renata (Shamal) Bledsoe, Melvin Reed, Octavia Durst, Chelsea (Trevor) Stover, Lindsey (Anthony) Stover, Brittany (Brad) Ratterman, Hans Tucker, Paige (Bryce) Tester, Seth Wagner, Logan (Eric) Brumbaugh, Gretchen Tucker, Chelsie Steinke, Ryan (Amy) Tucker, Tyler Tucker, Whitney Tucker, Kaylo Sims, Tuariel Sims, Kihono Sims, Amir Sims, Royal Sims, Martez Harris and Kharma Harris. She also has 42 Great Grandchildren and 6 Great-Great Grandchildren. She is also survived by a host of loving nieces, nephews and cousins. Special thanks to her physician Dr. Barbara Hill.
She was preceded in death by her three younger brothers whom she cherished, Wallace Lee (late wife Ruth) Barnes, Elvege Barnes and Elvertis Barnes, one son in law the late Rev. Nathaniel Gathright and one grandson Micheal Tucker and one great grandson.
She was a graduate of Lincoln High School in Forest City, Arkansas. She retired after 28 years from Copeland. Correatha was an active Church Member and served as an Usher and Trustee of the Mount Vernon Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. H.B. Murphy. She volunteered for approximately 17 years at Wilson Memorial Hospital. Rea loved to cook, spend time with friends, family, travel and babysit. Rea also loved the outdoors, her chickens and her garden. She was a 2018 honoree of the Strong Women of Faith in Benton Harbor, Michigan. She was a dedicated Sidney Yellow Jacket supporter of Sidney High School football, basketball, soccer and track teams. Correatha continued to show her love for parenting by opening her home to children needing Foster care.
Immediate family will greet family and friends at Adams Funeral Home on August 8, 2025 from 9:00-11:00 with Home Going services beginning at 11:00. Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery immediately following services.
