Carl E. Rucker

Carl E. Rucker, 86, of DeGraff passed peacefully on Friday, July 26, 2024, at Hearth and Home of Urbana. He was born May 15, 1938, in Batesville, IN to the late James Robert Lee Rucker and Della M. Campbell Rucker Clayton.

Carl is survived by three children: Terri (Fred)  Organ of Urbana, Carl E., Jr. of Columbus and Ronald R. (Kumnya) of Lincoln, NB, two grandsons: Vincent (Rachel) Spiert and Paul Organ, three: great grandchildren: Evelyn, Isaac and Lucas, a brother Joseph Rucker of KY, and a sister Geneva Mae Thomas of Arley, AL. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Shirley Ann (Hufford), brother Henry Lee, sister Roberta “Sissy”, daughter-in-law Julie Wagner-Rucker; and a grandson, James Wesley Organ.

Carl proudly served his country as a member of the US Air Force for 20 years, retiring as a Master Seargent specializing in ground equipment. He served during the Vietnam and the Korean Wars. Carl considered it a privilege to serve his country. 

Carl was also an over-the-road truck driver for over 20 years.  He co-founded Truckers for Christ, a ministry for over-the-road drivers, ministering at several locations. He was a member of the DeGraff American Legion and the Methodist Church in Marysville. Carl enjoyed old cars, riding motorcycles and drag racing.  His latest love was watching his great grand-children at play.  

Family will receive guests Wednesday July 31 at 9:00 am at Adams Funeral Home, 1401 Fair Rd., Sidney, with funeral service immediately following at 11:00 am.  Burial will be at Concord Cemetery, Urbana.  Shelby County Veterans and US Air Force will perform full military honors.
