Byron B. "Barney" Baker

Byron B. “Barney” Baker, age 87, of Anna, passed away on Saturday, February 11, 2023, at Shelby Skilled Nursing in Sidney.  He was born on December 12, 1935, in Greensburg, Kansas, to the late Sam and Zulia (Allen) Baker.  On October 3, 1991, he married Dorothy (Todd) Baker and she survives.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by children: Denny (Teresa) Baker of Sidney, Rick (Bev) Baker of Anna and Steve (Michelle) Baker of Ft. Wayne, IN; stepchildren: Gary (Irene) Shafer of Webster, Marcy Schmidt of Sidney, Lynesa (William) Wolfe of Sidney and Brian (Chanda) Miller of Anna; 23 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren: and siblings: Richard (Barb) Baker of Piqua and Joyce (Jerry) Sluss of Hardin.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother: William Baker; and one sister: Talytha Baker. 

Barney proudly served his county as a member of the US Marine Corps during the Korean War from 1954-1962 as a Sargent with the 1st Division Marine Corps FMF.  He was a member of the Sidney American Legion Post 217.  Barney attended New Life Church in Port Jefferson.  He enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards and bird watching.  Barney was previously employed at Whittman Auto Sales and retired from Stolle Corporation.  He loved taking fishing trips with J.R. Woods and Tim Woods to White River, IN.  Barney also enjoyed doing yard work with his very good buddy, Jim Jones.

Family will receive friends from 12:00-2:00 PM on Saturday, February 18, 2023, at Adams Funeral Home, 1401 Fair Road, Sidney, OH, with Pastor Earnie Jones officiating.  Funeral Service will be at 2:00 PM on Saturday at the funeral home.  Burial will follow in Pearl Cemetery in Anna with full military honors performed by Shelby County Veterans and US Marine Corps.
