Vernon D. Nicholson

Vernon D. Nicholson, age 84 formerly of Port Jefferson, passed away peacefully on Tuesday August 14, 2018 at 9:30 a.m. He was born on June 10, 1934 in Sidney, Ohio to father Charles Nicholson and mother Justina (Bernholt) Nicholson who preceded him in death. He married Violet (Reineke) Nicholson on March 2, 1957 who survives him.

Vernon is survived by son Vernon (Rita) Nicholson of Sidney, Ohio; daughter Darla Mullen of Celina, Ohio;  grandchildren Kara Mullen, Renee Spradlin, Nicholas Mullen, Leslie Carmack; siblings Tom (Evelyn) Nicholson, Robert Nicholson, Ruth Ann Larger, Janet Carr; and 8 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by son-in-law Kevin Mullen; sisters Charlene Farney, Betty Elsass, Janice Nicholson; brothers Leroy Nicholson, Benjamin Nicholson; and one granddaughter: Heather Mullin.

Vernon was an avid Oho State football fan. He loved vacationing in Florida and enjoyed wood working. He was a member of the American Legion Post 217, Sidney VFW Post 4239, and a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church. He was a Navy Veteran who served in the Korean War. Vernon retired from Ferguson Construction Company after 30 years of faithful service.

Calling hours will be Friday August 17, 2018 from 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. at Adams Funeral Home in Sidney. Full military services by American legion post 217 will be held Saturday August 18, 2018 at 10 a.m. at Adams Funeral Home.  Internment will be in Glen Cemetery.
