You don't know me, but I wanted to extend my condolences. For a few years I took baton lessons from Peggy at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Sidney. She was Peggy Detweiler when I was a Tamette, but as soon as I saw the photograph I knew it was her. She always had the biggest smile on her face, and it seemed her eyes always twinkled with pure joy. She taught me a lot and obviously made a big impression on me. I was pretty young when I started taking lessons and we moved after a few years so I had to stop. I guess it's been close to fifty years since I took lessons from her but I've thought of her often over the years, and now I wish I had looked her up sooner so that I could have told her. I'll never forget her infectious laugh, or the bottle of white shoe polish she always carried with her on Parade days. It always seemed an eternity waiting for the parades to start and most of us couldn't keep our white sneakers clean, so she'd line us up and cover the grass stains we'd gotten on them with white shoe polish. At competitions the judges always said I didn't smile enough, and I always wished I could borrow Peggy's beautiful smile. I have no doubt she touched many lives in very meaningful ways. I know she did mine.

So sorry we did not make it to the "Celebration of Life" service today. We had planned to leave for it Saturday but had complications arrive. Our thoughts & prayers are with you as it is almost time for the event. Our sympathy is with all of the family. May God's abundant grace be sufficient . (II Cor. 12:9)

To the family of Peggy Swartz Risk,
I am saddened to hear of Peggy’s recent passing. I have many high school memories of her leading our band as head majorette. Also fun get togethers with Peggy and Beverly. It is hard to understand why God chooses to call loved ones home before we on earth are ready to say goodbye. Prayers for peace for all. 🙏🏻
