MICHAEL C. “MIKE” PENCE, age 69, of Sidney passed away on Friday, June 30, 2017 at Kindred Hospital in Dayton. He was born in Sidney on April 23, 1948 to the late Lawrence and Sara Belle (Kies) Pence. On February 10, 1968, he married Linda Gattes. She survives
Mike is also survived by his children: Christopher (Deanna) Pence of Houston, Nathaniel Pence of Ft. Loramie, Andrew (Mandy) Pence of Mason and Hilary (Robert) Ashman of New Bremen; siblings: Larry (Mary) Pence of Oak Harbor, Jeff (Emily) Pence of Urbana, Malinda (Ray) Stephens of Edmonton, KY and Sarita Mollman of Casstown; and grandchildren: Quinten, Jake, Cole, Connor, Drew, Carter, Leo, Zachary, Parker and Paige. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one grandson: Alexander Pence.
Mike was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church of Sidney. He was also a member of Sidney American Legion Post 217, where he was past post commander, VFW Post 4239 and Amvets Post 1986. Mike retired from the State of Ohio where he was an accountant and also retired from the City of Sidney Parks and Recreation. Mike proudly served his country as a member of the US Army. He served in Vietnam and received a Purple Heart. Mike enjoyed woodworking, fishing, hunting and was a true outdoorsman. He was also a beekeeper and enjoyed working with his bees. Mike loved his family and enjoyed spending time with all of them, especially his grandchildren. He was a 1966 graduate of Fairlawn High School and from Miami Jacobs College in Dayton.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, July 5, 2017 at Holy Angels Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Pete Langenkamp as Celebrant. Burial will follow in Graceland Cemetery with full military honors being presented by Sidney Post of American Legion 217. Friends may call from 4:00 – 7:00 PM on Tuesday, July 4, 2017, at Adams Funeral Home in Sidney.
