Ivan Ray Bennett, age 85, of Sidney, passed away Saturday, November 3, 2018 at Kettering Medical Center. He was born July 6, 1933 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to father John Mays Bennett and mother Ollie Lee (Wells) Bennett. He married the love of his life, Betty (Longworth) Bennett on August 6, 1953 and she survives.
Ivan is survived by Reba (Bowman Dale) Woods of Bellefontaine, Conda (Thomas) Fernandez of Ft. Loramie, Sandy (Thomas) Wise of Sidney, Linda Edmondson of Nancy, Kentucky, Lisa (Ken) Minniear of Sidney, Kelli Stiver of Anna; 24 grandchildren, 44 great grandchildren, and 11 great-great grandchildren; brother John (Debra) Bennett of Sidney, Roy (Linda) Bennett of Piqua; sister Iva (Richard) Hutton of Vero Beach, Florida, Barbara DeClerck of St Paris, Joy Keith of Sidney, Rosa (Tim) O’Leary of Anna. He was preceded in death by daughter Laura Jean; grandson Dustin Wise; sisters Oretta Newman, Jane Stewart; brother Jackie Bennett.
Ivan retired from Kirk Nationalease after many years of faithful service. He loved to play the guitar and banjo, loved music of all kinds, especially Bluegrass music. He also enjoyed gardening and traveling. He was a very hard worker who loved spending time with his family and those close to him. He liked to tell stories of living through the Dustbowl, the Great Depression and of working in the coal mines of Kentucky. He moved to Sidney in the 1950s where he raised his family. Ivan had a strong Christian faith and was a member of First Baptist Church of Sidney, Ohio.
Family and friends may call Thursday, November 8, 2018 from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM at Sidney Baptist Church. Services will be officiated by Pastor Tom Fernandez at 12:00 PM. Interment will follow at Pearl Cemetery.
