Carl Cooper Jr., age 85, went home to be with the Lord on June 5, 2017 at 6:50 a.m.
He was born on July 3, 1931, in Sidney, to the late Carl and Lillian (Whited) Cooper. On February 4, 1950, he married Lois (Sullenberger) Schmidt and she survives.
Carl is also survived by one son, Steven (Joyce) Cooper of Bellefontaine, daughters; Cheryl (Dan) Long of Sidney, Penny Davis of Piqua and Pam (Randy) Strickland of Wisconsin. Carl has nine grandchildren; Stacy, Jamie, Rachael, Daniel Jr., April, Kelli, Heather, Ryan and Brandon, 17 great grandchildren and one great great-grandson. He also has a great friend, Jessie Magana from Washington. Other survivors include his siblings; Gary (Karen) Cooper of Washington, Norma (Cooper) Cahill of Colorado and Betty (Lloyd) Gomez of Washington.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Janet Cooper Turner and great grandson, Wesley Trainer.
Carl graduated in 1949 from Sidney High School. He was a member of the Pasco United Methodist Church. He proudly served in the US Army National Guard during the Korean Conflict. Carl was a fireman for the Sidney Fire Department, sold insurance for Mulic and finished his career as a pipe fitter (Union U.A. Local 296) for Plumber Steam Fitters and Ship Fitters Industry. Carl enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling and most of all, being with his family.
Family and friends may call on July 3, 2017 from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at the Pasco United Methodist Church, Pasco. Funeral service will commence at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. David Brisker officiating. Internment will follow at Cedar Point Cemetery, Pasco.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Port Jefferson Fire Department Building Fund in Carl Cooper’s name.
