Richard Kies Obituary

Richard Lee Kies, age 87, of Sidney, passed away on Tuesday, September 6, 2022, at Fairhaven Nursing Home, Sidney, where he had been under hospice care. He was born August 10, 1935, near Lakeview, Ohio, to Clarence and Anna (Opphile) Kies.

Richard married Shirley Ann (Young) Kies on April 25, 1959, in Jackson Center, Ohio. Shirley preceded him in death in 2021.

Surviving are two daughters, Connie Conroy of Cincinnati and Cathy Kies of Sidney; granddaughter Sarah D’Agostino of Cincinnati and two great-granddaughters. One granddaughter, Laura Conroy, preceded him in death.

Also surviving are three brothers, Arthur Kies of Piqua, Harold Kies and Norman Kies of Sidney as well as two sisters, Ruth Eick of Dellroy and Eileen Kies of Botkins. His brother, Raymond, preceded him in death.  He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Richard graduated in 1953 from Jackson Center High School where he was active in all sports.  He was proud to be a veteran, having served with the United States Air Force. He retired from Copeland Corporation where he had been employed over 40 years. Richard had been confirmed into the Lutheran faith.

He enjoyed lawn work, following his favorite football and basketball teams, music, reading and playing cards.

Private graveside services for family members will be held on Saturday, September 10, 2022, at Pearl Cemetery, Swanders, with Chaplain Chad Wilson officiating. There will be a full military service by the US Air Force and Shelby County Veterans. There will be no calling hours.
