Lawrence “Larry” I. Schloss, age 96, of Sidney, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 15, 2020 at his residence from the results of lung cancer. He was born August 17, 1923 in Houston, Ohio to the late Rodney and Cora (Rhodehammel) Schloss.
Left to cherish his memory include two children: Teresa Holthaus of Sidney, Gene Schloss of Port Jefferson; sister Minnie (Alvin) Young of Jackson Center; 4 grandchildren: Darrin (Ann) Wilson, Amanda (Bill) Smith, Corey (Danielle) Holthaus, Rodney Schloss; 6 great grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandchild. He was preceded in death by 5 sisters and 4 brothers.
Larry proudly served in the United States Army during WWII from 1944-1946 earning several awards and medals. He was the recipient of the American Theater Ribbon with 1 bronze star, Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon with 2 bronze stars, Good Conduct Medal, Meritorius Unit Award, and World War II Victory Medal. After working for Copeland Corporation until his retirement, Larry spent much of his time reading the Bible, loved all kinds of animals and took in several strays, sang songs, and enjoyed playing his harmonica. He loved spending time with his family and will be greatly missed.
