Karen Sue (Hays) Helman Obituary

Karen Sue (Hays) Helman, age 84, went to be with her Lord and Savior on January 7, 2022. Karen was born in Hamilton, Ohio on May 13, 1937 to the late Cloyd and Ivalyn Dora (Staley) Hays. Her only sibling and dearly loved sister, Brenda Oliver (Michael) survives in Anderson, Indiana.

On May 6, 1956 Karen married her class of 1955 Sidney High School sweetheart, Dennis Helman, who survives. They were blessed with three children; Mark Helman of Sidney, Denise Roby (Mike) of Fishers, Indiana and Susan Davis (Bret) of Delaware, Ohio. Their blessings multiplied with the births of five grandchildren; Cameron Davis (Annie) of Cody, Wyoming, Morgan (Davis) Cruz (Steve) of Delaware, Ohio, Derek Roby of Indianapolis, Indiana, Hilary Davis (Scott Hoelscher) of Ft. Loramie, Ohio, Kristen (Roby) Ostendorf (Randy) of Hilliard, Ohio and six great-grandchildren; Myla and Paxton Cruz, Timothy and Christopher Roby, and Andrew and Ava Ostendorf.

Many other relatives and friends will feel the loss of this sweet soul. Her phone calls and special occasion cards were appreciated by many. Karen made it a priority to keep those that she treasured close and she reminded them often that they were loved. She met regularly for over six decades with a group of her childhood friends, and she looked forward to chats on the phone with others that lived far away or that she could not get out to see.

Karen was a good and faithful servant at Connection Point Church (formerly First Church of God). Being a Sunday school teacher, serving on boards and committees, and working at the Welcome Center for many years, are just a few of the roles she filled. Her love for the Lord and her church family was a priority and it was seen in her steadfast commitment throughout the years.

Employment as a daycare provider and a school cafeteria aide provided Karen with opportunities to touch the lives of children. Many may remember the nice lady who treated them with kindness. She enjoyed her work, but for those of us that got to call her Mom, Grandma Karen, Granny, or Gran… her love tank never ran dry. Whether attending an event at school, playing a board game, or snuggling up on sleepover night to watch a favorite tv show… she was there. Dependable and willing support for almost every event and stage of our lives. We are all so very blessed and there could never be enough words or days to thank her.
