Cecil O. Steele, age 78, of Sidney, passed away on Friday, September 17, 2021, at Wilson Health. He was born on June 10, 1943, in Sidney, to the late Jesse W. and Thelma R. (McMartin) Steele. He was a loving husband to wife, Shirley Ann (Davis) Steele, who he married on February 17, 1989 and she survives.
In addition to his wife, Cecil is survived by two daughters: Jackie (Richard Wagner) Steele of Dallas, TX, and Amanda (Robert) Slay of St. Marys, OH; stepdaughter: Terri (Mike) Greve; sister: Judy (George) Snodgrass of Sidney; grandchildren: Kylie Brooks, Jayden Brooks and Maci Brooks; step-grandchildren: Jamie Moeller, Jackie Bashmakov and Jessica Greve; and step-great grandchildren: Ava Moeller, Sebastian Watercutter and Leilani Bashmakov. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son: James Robert Steele; and two brothers: Robert Steele and John Steele.
Cecil loved helping others. He was very active at Holy Angels Catholic Church in Sidney, where he was an usher for many years. He worked with Lehman Youth and volunteered at Shelby County Historical Society and Ohio Living Dorothy Love. Cecil proudly served his country as a member of the US Army. During his time of service, he did two tours in Vietnam. Cecil was a member of Sidney American Legion Post 217. He was instrumental in bringing the Vietnam Wall to Sidney. Cecil enjoyed sports, played in softball leagues for many years, and was an avid high school football fan, working the chain gang for several seasons. He was very dedicated to serving his community, but even more dedicated to his family. Cecil devoted 42 years to Copeland Corporation. He collected cowboy memorabilia and loved scary movies (and scaring others during those movies). He was a notorious jokester who loved to make others laugh and brought joy to countless people. He will be missed dearly.
Family will receive friends from 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM on Thursday, September 23, 2021, at Adams Funeral Home, 1401 Fair Road, Sidney, OH. Funeral service will be held at 12:00 PM at the funeral home with Fr. Jarred Kohn officiating. Burial will follow in Pearl Cemetery, Sidney, with full military honors provided by the US Army and Shelby County Veterans.
