Mrs. Marianne Lauterbur Helmlinger
92 years old
Marianne was born on August 29, 1926 in Sidney, Ohio to James Lauterbur and Florence Reed Lauterbur. She was married in 1951 to Louis Robert (Bob) Helmlinger, who passed away on November 28, 1963. Marianne’s sister, Alice and brother Jimmy, proceeded her in death. Marianne entered into eternal rest on September 13, 2018.
Marianne is survived by her seven children: Nancy Sullivan of Virginia, Larry Helmlinger (Florida), Reverend Pete Helmlinger (Archdiocese of Cincinnati), John Helmlinger (Ohio), Julie Turner-Bingham (Washington), Molly Helmlinger (Ohio) and Sr. Jayne Helmlinger, CSJ (California).
Marianne is also survived by five grandchildren: Keith Turner, Wendy Sullivan-Richards, Mindy Sullivan-Mammen, Zackery Helmlinger and Nicholas Sullivan. There are also five great grandchildren: Madilynne Turner, Kyle Turner, Cole Helmlinger, Keegan Richards and Clementine Mammen.
Marianne graduated from Ball State University with her B.A. in Education and she received a Master’s Degree from University of Dayton.
Marianne was a pioneer in the state of Ohio for mental health and was very active in the following organizations: Lifetime member of Holy Angels Catholic Church, Holy Angels Altar Society for 50 years, Eucharistic Minister for Holy Angels Catholic Church, Newman Club (member and historian), Delta Kappa Gamma for 62 years, Lifetime member of Ohio Retired Teachers Association, Member of Shelby County Teacher Association and Legislative Chair, Area Agency on Aging Advisory Council for 18 years, Member of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), served on the NAMI Ohio Board for 15 years, member of NAMI Darke, Miami and Shelby County Board, TriCounty Board of Recovery and Mental Health Services , Wilson Hospital Auxiliary Volunteer, member of the American Association of University Women and Marianne was Citizen of the Year in 1992.
Marianne was a public school teacher for 38 years. She taught predominantly in Sidney City Schools and several of her early years were in St. Mary’s.
Friends may call at the Adams Funeral Home, on Monday, September 17, from 4-7 pm. Mass and Christian burial will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 18, at Holy Angels Catholic Church, with Fr. Frank Amberger officiating. Burial will follow at Graceland Cemetery.
