Larry Wiford Obituary

Larry L. Wiford, age 83, of Sidney, Ohio, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Friday, July 13, 2018, at Fair Haven, Shelby County Home. 

He was born on August 7, 1934, in Shelby County, Ohio, to the late Leo and Ethel (Stewart) Wiford.  He celebrated 62 years of marriage to Florence (Cotterman) Wiford  whose nickname is Jimmy. 

Larry is survived by his wife and three children, Tim (Kim) Wiford and Toby Wiford of Sidney, Ohio, and Tammy (Bill) St. Myers of Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin.  His daughter, Tina (Jeff) Hall, Sidney, Ohio,  preceded him in death.  He is further survived by grandchildren, Tonya (Stacy) Snow, Jason (Joy) Hall, Misty (DJ) Scott all of Sidney, Ohio, Heidi (Mark) Manthey of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Brian (Elizabeth) St. Myers of Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin, Timmy (Lisa) Wiford of Sidney, Ohio, and Amber (Zach) Small of Troy, Ohio.  He was also blessed with fifteen great-grandchildren Jordyn Hall, Brittany Hall, Carter Hall, Chase Hall, Wyatt Hall, Blake Cox, Jackson Scott, Holden Manthey, Sebastian Manthey, Maximus St. Myers, Isabelle St. Myers, Levi Wiford, Hunter Cox, Grayson Small, and Arianna Small.

His surviving siblings include:  Bob Wiford of Landers, California, Lloyd Wiford of Sidney,  Ohio, Boone (Phyliss) Wiford of Casstown, Ohio, Paul (Barb) of Centerville, Ohio, Gil (Sandy) Wiford of Charleston, South Carolina, Sam (Judy) Wiford of Tomah, Wisconsin, Steve (Linda) Wiford of Sidney, Ohio, and Doris Dressman of Phoenix, Arizona.  He was preceded in death by sister Dorothy Slepika and brother Curtis Wiford.

Larry lived his entire life in Sidney, Ohio, save the three years he served in the U.S. Marine Corp. Once a Marine, always a Marine!  He served his country from 1952-1955 during the Korean War being stationed in Okinawa, Japan.  His main duty was to care for the POWs. Upon his return, he worked at Copeland Corporation for many years as a foreman.  He then worked for the Sidney City Schools specifically at Lowell Elementary and Emerson Elementary. 

Larry was a member of the Northtowne Church of God and the American Legion.  His hobbies included ball card collecting, building jigsaw puzzles and making notepads for family and friends.  He also enjoyed his time until recently volunteering at Agape Distribution.  He was a past member of IUTIS coaching many young boys at Harmon Field during the late 60s and early 70s. 

Larry will be remembered by many family and friends as a kind man with a unique sense of humor. 

Family and friends may attend visitation at Adams Funeral Home, Sidney, Ohio. on Tuesday, July 17th from 6 to 8 pm.  Services will be Wednesday, July 18th at 10 am with an hour of visitation from 9 to 10 am. Pastor Tim Bartee will officiate the ceremony.  Full military services provided by Sidney American Legion Post 217. Burial to follow at Shelby Memory Gardens.
