Charles Cole Obituary

Charles M. Cole, age 88 of Sidney passed away Saturday evening, August 25, 2018 of natural causes at Bethesda North Hospital, Cincinnati, Ohio.  

He was born in Enid, Oklahoma (Garfield County) May 31, 1930 to the late Frederick and Nellie (Boyer) Cole. He was raised in Enid, Oklahoma.  On December 23, 1951, in Stillwater, Oklahoma, he married Mary Jo Willms of Kingfisher, Oklahoma.

 Survivors include two children, Barbara (Robert) Cochran of Loveland, Ohio and Michael Cole of Ashville, NC, a daughter-in-law, Joanie Cole of Oakwood, Ohio and two grandchildren, Parker (Madison) Cole of Columbus, Ohio and Keaton Cole of Troy, Ohio.

Charles Cole was the middle child in his family.  He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents and an older sister, Dorthy Hladik (Enid, Oklahoma) and a younger brother, Joseph Cole (Oklahoma, City, Oklahoma). He is survived by sisters and brothers-in-laws Margaret Field, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Colleen Willms of Kingfisher, Oklahoma, Marlene (Dale) Hildebrand of Choctaw, Oklahoma, August Willms of Choctaw, Oklahoma and Marciadean (Richard)Harrison of Burleson, Texas.  Many nieces and nephews survive.

He graduated from Oklahoma State (Stillwater, Oklahoma) in May 1953 with a degree in Industrial Engineering.  He completed Officer Candidate School at Naval Station, Newport, Rhode Island. He was then stationed at the U. S. Naval Weapons Factory, Washington DC in November 1953. He and his family relocated to Sidney Ohio in 1956 to join the Monarch Machine Tool Company.  At Monarch, he held various Management positions over 28 years.  His last position held at Monarch was V.P and General Manager.  After his resignation from Monarch in 1979, Cole managed his farms and performed consulting work for banks and business acquaintances.  He also bought and sold several businesses including Lacal Equipment, Jackson Center, Ohio.  He enjoyed owning and operating Lacal for approximately 20 years and continued to stay active in the Company after he and a partner sold the Company to JMAC, Columbus, Ohio in 2002.

Cole and his wife lived at Indian Lake, Ohio for 18 years and Bonita Springs, Florida for 27 years.  They enjoyed special friends at Springcreek Village Park (Bonita Springs, Florida).  He was a member of Indian Lake Community Church, Indian Lake, Ohio. He was active in the business community and served in the past on the Wilson Memorial Hospital Board and Rotary.

Funeral services will be held at Adams Funeral Home, Sidney, Ohio at 1:00 PM on Thursday, August 30, 2018, with Pastor Jim Ellington officiating.  A private family burial service at Graceland Cemetery, Sidney will follow the funeral. A full military service will be held at the cemetery by the US Navy and Sidney American Legion Post 217. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be donated to Indian Lake Community Church, PO Box 457, Russells Point, Ohio 43348.
