Clara Belle (Detrick) DeWeese

Clara Belle DeWeese, age 98, of Sidney, passed away Saturday, March 30, 2024, at Wilson Health of Sidney.  She was born April 5, 1925, in Connersville, Indiana, daughter of the late Marion and Alice (Hartley) Detrick. She married Lowell DeWeese in 1947, and he preceded her in death in 2009.

Clara is survived by seven children: Donald (Shirley) DeWeese, Kathryn DeBord, Timothy (Cleo) DeWeese, Ann (Scott) Popoff, Margaret (Kevin) Headings, Sarah (Chris deceased) Brauning, Dorothy (Trent) Snavley and one brother Andrew Detrick, Grandchildren: Jayme (DeWeese) Hardy, Derek DeWeese, Lisa DeBord, Elizabeth (DeBord) Kumbhari , Jason, Dustin, Ryan and Joshua DeWeese, Katie (Popoff) Hutchinson, Zachariah Popoff, Kaleb Headings, Ethan Headings, Morgan (Headings) Goffena, Helen Brauning, Sam Brauning, Peter Brauning, Audrey (Snavley) Laughlin, Clara (Snavley) Maurer, Ben Snavley, Mallory Headings (deceased) and 25 great-grandchildren.

She was also proceeded in death by parents and siblings Marion Detrick Jr and Francis Roberson.

Clara married Lowell DeWeese on March 17, 1947, and moved to farm just north of Pemberton in 1949. 

She graduated from DeGraff High School in 1943 and Ohio State in 1947 as a Home Economics Teacher.  She was a long-time member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sidney, member of Extension Homemakers and 4H Advisor for 25 plus years. 

Calling hours will be held April 6, 2024, from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at St John’s Lutheran Church, Sidney. Funeral service will commence at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Glen Cemetery, Port Jefferson.
