William "Bill" Cummings

Bill Cummings passed away peacefully in his home on August 18th, 2017 at the age of 81. Bill is survived by his wife Elaine, who he married in 1984, their son Evan, daughter (in-law) Tiffany Brown, and a brother-in- law, Robert Goodwin. He was pre-deceased by his parents, Theron and Dorothy, both sisters, Nancy Goodwin and Barbara Dailey and one brother-in- law, Willis Dailey.

Bill started school in Elmira, New York and dropped out after the 10th grade to attend the University of Chicago where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in three years. Later in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Bill earned a degree in computer programming from the Fort Lauderdale Technical College.

He held varied jobs including working in his family’s clothing store, managing a department at Burdines Department Store, and teaching computer programming. Bill would become the catalogue editor at Scott Publishing Co., where for 27 years he would work with his lifelong hobby and passion – stamp collecting.

Bill began collecting stamps in 1944 and continued with the hobby for his entire life. He became an active and prominent member in the community, holding office in many local clubs, contributed to and self-published catalogues, and wrote hundreds of articles for the Perfins Club and the Precancel Stamp Society. Additionally, Bill held the honor of Lieutenant Governor in the Kiwanis Club and served as a Boy Scout scoutmaster.

Bill enjoyed sports and travel. He was a loving husband and father and will be remembered for the love and humor he shared with the world.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on August 22, 2017 at Holy Angels Catholic Church in Sidney with Rev. Fr. Frank G. Amberger as Celebrant.  A closed casket viewing will be held at Adams Funeral Home on Monday, August 21st from 4 pm to 6 pm..
