Victor Carl Stangel

September 2, 1921 ~ February 3, 2016 (age 94) 94 Years Old


 

Victor Carl Stangel, age 96, of Sidney, passed away February 3, 2016 at Fair Haven Nursing Home in Sidney.  He was born in Shelby County on September 2, 1921 to the late Perry and Anna (Rembold) Stangel.  On June 12, 1948 he married Betty Stewart  and she passed in 1983.

Vic is survived by children: Steven Mark Stangel(son-in-law, Scot Duncil)  and Cheryl K. Koewler (husband,the late John Koewler) of Sidney;  granddaughter: Amy (Nick) Fisher; grandson: John (the late Katina)  Koewler;  great -grandchildren: Betsy, LeAnn, Ted, Kevin, Curtis and Kaitlin; siblings:  Harlan Stangel of Kettlersville, and  sister in law, Virginia Stangel of Sidney; many neices and nephews; special  friends: Rhonda and Kevin Cavender and Jessica and Taylor Block.    He is preceded in death by infant sister Beatrice Ann; siblings and spouses: Floyd and Tennie Stangel , LaDonna and Richard Lyons,  Virginia and Allen Hoewischer,  Eleanor Stangel and Dwight Stangel; and   inlaws William and Velma Stewart, Robert and Catherine "Kate" Stewart.   

Victor  proudly served his country as a member of the Army Air Force during WW II serving in England.  He was a member of Sidney American Legion Post #217.  Vic was baptized, confirmed and a lifetime member at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sidney.  He also enjoyed attending Lockington United Methodist Church  while living with his daughter.  Victor worked at Monarch Machine Lathe as an operator for 40 years.  He was also a member of Compromise Grange in Hardin for 65 years.  Vic was active in starting the Compromise Grange Fair Booth and the Food Booth, which is now Houston Community Booth.  Vic was still active and enjoyed his singles groups, dancing, cruises and card clubs; especially with childhood neighbor and friend, Marty Watercutter.  Vic loved going to Coldwater football and basketball games and Sidney soccer and baseball games to watch his great grandchildren.  Vic retired at the age of 80 from his well-known apple and fruit orchard. Many people  enjoyed "Grandpa Apple's"  cider at the farmer's market downtown Sidney. Vic and his brothers were honored at the 1st Shelby County Apple Fest, as well as their parents and their Cherry Lane Orchard which operated from 1943-1974.

  Friends may call from 1-4 PM on Sunday Feb. 7th at the Adams  Funeral Home, Sidney.  Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, February 8, 2016 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, with Rev. John Schreiber officiating. Full military services will be provided by American Legion Post # 217.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.  Burial will follow at Cedar Point Cemetery in Pasco, Oh. A luncheon will be provided at St. Johns Lutheran Church following the burial.
