James A. Theis

James Arthur Theis, age 84, of Sidney, Ohio, passed away on January 10, 2017 at his place of residence surrounded by his loving family. James was born in Coldwater, Ohio on September 7, 1932 to Arthur and Hazel (Mullenix) Theis who are both deceased. He graduated from Ft. Recovery High School and then joined the US Navy. James was married to Marie Berning on July 2, 1955, who survives;

James served his country in the US Navy during the Korean war. He was a member of the Sidney American Legion Post 217, the Amvets Post 1986, VFW Post 4239, was a member of the Knights of Columbus as a 4th Degree as well as proudly being active with the Singing Soldiers for many years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching westerns and most of all watching his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. For over 50 years James worked as a Barber cutting hair in both Ft. Loramie and Sidney OH.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years Marie, children Bob (Julie) Theis of Ft. Loramie, Debbie Gagermeier of Sidney, William (Mary) Theis of Sidney, Jim Theis of Scappoose, Oregon, son-in-laws James Ratliff of New Baden, IL and Mike Rethman of Ft. Loramie, his siblings Paul Theis of Dayton, Tom & Marilyn Richardson of Longview, Texas and sister-in-law Jonnie Theis of Memphis, TN, 13 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren and many other family and friends. He is preceded in death by his daughters Joyce Ratliff and Nancy Rethman as well as his brother John Theis.

James was a long time member of Holy Angels Catholic Church, Sidney OH.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 14, 2017 at 10am at Holy Angels, Catholic Church. Visitation will be held from 4pm-8pm, Friday, January 13th at Adams Funeral Home, 1401 Fair Road, Sidney  and from 8:30-9:39 AM on Friday, also at Adams Funeral Home.  Burial will follow the funeral at Shelby Memory Gardens with full military rites. Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Adams Funeral Home.
