JAMES “DOUG” GILL, age 88, of Anna, passed away on Sunday, October 22, 2017 at his residence.  He was born on April 22, 1929 in Gatewood, WV to the late Henry and Rhoda (Epperly) Gill.  James married Doris Pellman on February 14, 1986.  She survives.

Doug is also survived by four daughters: Bonnie (Dan) Loomis of Clanton, AL, Brenda (John) Jackson of Sidney, Belinda (Fiancé, Bob Fleck) Fetters of Uniopolis and Bettina (Fiancé: Terry Brown) Gill of Sidney; five sons: Barry (Rhonda) Gill of New Bremen, Bob Gill of Sidney, Brent (Billie Jo) Gill of Anna, Benjamin (Pamela) Gill of Port Jefferson and Bevan (Elizabeth) Gill of Anna; twenty three grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren: three step children: Jeanne (Steve) Weaver of Lakeview, Darrell (Donna) Pellman of Appling, GA and Carl (Bev) Pellman of Sidney; eight step grandchildren; four step great grandchildren; siblings: Joan Miller of Jane Lew, WV and Dale Gill of Lynchburg, VA; and step sister: Marcia Atkinson of Sidney.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters: Maxine Gill of Lewisburg, WV and June Burnham of Almeda, GA; step daughter: Cheryl Cook of St. Johns, MI; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Doug retired from Lochard's and had previously worked at Monarch Machine and Steenrod Construction for 21 years.  He served on Anna Park Committee from 1997 – 2000.  Doug proudly served his country as a member of the Air Force from 1947 – 1949.  He was a volunteer scout for 45 years.  He received the Order of Arrow in 1972, Buckskins in 1972, Wood Badge in 1972, Brotherhood in 1973, District Award of Merit in 1973, Scout Master Troop 306 in 1976, Shelby District Executive in 1977, Vigil Honor of Order of Arrow in 1977, Scouter’s Key in 1978, Kit Cricket in 1986, Silver Beaver in 1989, Ecology Award in 1990, Hall of Fame in 1992 and various other awards.  Doug loved making woodcrafts for his children and grandchildren.

Service will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday at Adams Funeral Home in Sidney with Rev. Phillip Chilcote officiating.  Burial will follow in Shelby Memory Garden in Sidney with full military honors provided by American Legion Post 217 of Sidney.  Friends may call from 4:00 – 8:00 PM on Thursday at the funeral home.
