Clifford Don Middleton

CLIFFORD DON MIDDLETON, age 91, of Sidney, passed away on Friday, August 19, 2016 at Dorothy Love Retirement Center in Sidney surrounded by his daughters.  He was born in Green Township on December 3, 1924 to the late Don and Alta (Halterman) Middleton.

Cliff is survived by his daughters: Penny (Steve) Elsner of Sidney, Lee Ann (Dave) Bell of Anna, Candy Roediger of Lakeview and Ginger (Gregg) McDermit of Sidney; grandchildren: Nikki Elsner, Bridget (Shawn) Stettler, Chad (Krystel) Bell, Sonja Cost, Kris (Jessica) Elsner, Gavin (Tara) McDermit, Clay (Jakki) Roediger and Jeff (Christina) McDermit; 18 great grandkids; 2 great great grandkids; and sister: Sarah Shaffer.  He was preceded in death by stillborn daughter: Patty; stillborn brother: Franklin; brother and sister-in-law: Art and Theda Middleton; and brother-in-law: Don Shaffer.

Cliff took great pride in serving as a deep sea diver in World War II with the United States Navy.  After his military service, he worked for the railroad in Anchorage, AK, where he enjoyed the great outdoors, fishing and hunting with his four best friends from Sidney.  While in Alaska, he married Norma Zwiesler and they became Quonset Hut Homesteaders.

Upon his return to Sidney, he joined his mother in running Middleton Market.  Later his brother, Art, also joined him in the business, making it a family affair.  After leaving the grocery business, Cliff became a successful salesman.  He worked for Midwestern Life Insurance Company.  He was often in the top 10 Salesman Club for the company.  Cliff finished his sales career being a supervisor with Shaklee.

Cliff was a member of American Legion Post 217, Am Vet Post 1986, VFW Post 4239, Indian Lake Moose Lodge 1533 and Indian Lake Eagles.  He served as an officer with many of these organizations.  These clubs allowed him to help many members and communities.  Cliff will be missed by his family and many friends.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, August 25, 2016 at Adams Funeral Home, 1401 Fair Road, Sidney, OH with Rev. Philip Chilcoate officiating.  Burial will follow in Plattsville Cemetery in Plattsville.  Friends may call from 5-7 PM on Wednesday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the American Legion Post 217, 1265 Fourth Avenue, Sidney, OH 45365 or the charity of the donor’s choice.
