Albert Joseph Mertz

ALBERT JOSEPH MERTZ, age 67 of Sidney, passed away on February 18, 2017 at his residence following a battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis.  He was born on September 25, 1949 in Sidney to the late Anthony and Elizabeth (Benanzer) Mertz.  On March 30, 1996, he married Kathy Metzler and she survives.

Albert is also survived by his children: Tom Mertz of Sidney, Sarah (Tom) McClain of Dayton, Marie (Chet) Huffman of Botkins, Nicole (Joe) Ewicka of Milford, PA, Lynne (Shannon) Forsythe of Troy, Jeffrey Callahan of Sidney and Rachel (Terry) Hines of Pleasant Hill; twelve grandchildren: Gage Forsythe, LeAnn Forsythe, Jacob Forsythe, Morgan Ewicka, Nadira Callahan, Tristyn Ewing, Anthony Wyant, Liv Hines, Malia Prout, Matthew Prout, Kiersten Huffman and Caitlyn Cline; and siblings: Delores Rutt of Chesapeake, Richard (Teresa) Mertz of WY,  Carl (Angela) Mertz of TX, Frances Long of St. Marys, Angie (Mike) Kittel of New Knoxville, Veronica Butt of Sidney, Elizabeth Immel of Sidney and Carol (Dave) Cruse of Miamisburg; and sister-in-law: Mary Mertz of Houston .  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother.

Albert retired from the US Marine Corps after 21 years as a Master Sergeant.  He proudly served his country for that 21 years, part of it in Vietnam.  Albert was also a retired semi driver.  He was a member of VFW Post 4239 and the NRA.  Albert enjoyed hunting, fishing, riding his Harley, shooting his guns and spending time with his children and grandchildren.  He also enjoyed working on his cars and motorcycles. 

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at Adams Funeral Home in Sidney with Jason Lawson officiating.  Burial will be in Cedar Point Cemetery in Pasco with full military honors presented by the US Marine Corps.  Friends may call from 6-8 PM on Tuesday at the funeral home.
