John Hurley Obituary

John W. Hurley, 67, joined his beloved late wife to be with their Heavenly Father on March 20th, 2024 from Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton. He was born July 19th, 1956 at St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima to the late William and Phyllis Hurley (née Bell)

On June 23rd, 1979 he married Patricia Hurley (née Maloon). He is survived by their children; Gabriel (Jen Schaffner) Hurley, Amy (Nathan) Evans, and Ryan (Timothy Luoma) Hurley; his granddaughters: Emma, Audrey, Libby, Madison, Zanna. Kimmy, and Kinsey; and his siblings: Janice (Edward) York, Douglas Hurley, Beverly (Tom) Suttles, Victor (Rita) Hurley, Nancy (Melvin) Jackson, & Phil (Robin) Hurley. In addition to his wife and parents he was preceded in death by his baby sister Beverly Jean, his brother Frank, and his sister-in-law Joyce.

John graduated from Jackson Center High School, and worked his entire life in Shelby County factories to provide for his family.  He was a humble virtuous man of great faith, and was a beloved member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church in Sidney. He was also a hobbyist and collector who had a deep passion for NASCAR, professional/local sports, Mountain Dew, and Reese Cups. He was a Cleveland Browns loyalist, a Cincinatti Reds apologist, and a Darrell Waltrip fanatic. He also wholeheartedly supported his local sports, and attended many stock car, dragster, and sprint car races around the state and beyond. Some of his fondest memories were cheering on the Jackson Center Tiger’s basketball teams throughout the years, and spending time with his brothers at the races. In his last years, he had the pleasure to share and sell his diecast collection in Lima, and make a small profit off of his joy. He was truly the best grandpa, father, son, brother, uncle, and friend anyone could ask for. He will be missed dearly by many, but will always be remembered fondly by all.
