Dorothy Jane (Tennery) Brand

We are so sad to report the passing of our Dear Aunt Dorothy. Dorothy Jane Tennery Brand, age 98, died on April 20, 2024, at her home near Lockington.

On November 12, 1925, Dorothy was the first child born to Robert and Margaret (Shepherd) Tennery.  She was born on Pomeroy Street in Sidney. She married Robert “Bob” Brand on August 21, 1970.  He died after twenty years together, on August 21, 1990.

Aunt Dorothy is survived by five nieces: Sharon Strayer, Deborah Kay Tennery, Diane Tennery Leander, Sandy Small, and Kathy Hamblin – Tennery; four nephews: Gerald Tennery, Dennis Tennery, David Tennery, and Timothy Metz; and by a great many grandnieces and grandnephews, as well as by thirteen first cousins.

In addition to her parents and Bob, Dorothy was preceded in death by her sister, Betty Metz, and by her brothers, Robert “Junior” Tennery and Charles “Dick” Tennery.

Dorothy was a 1943 graduate of Sidney High School.  In 1944 she joined the team at H.R. VanTilburgh Sales, where she worked until 1972, when she and Bob started D and B Rebuilders, their own business, that was based at their Kaser Road home.

Aunt Dorothy will be remembered as a loving family caretaker…and as a second mother to many of her nieces and nephews. During such a long life, Dorothy was dedicated to many hobbies and interests.  For example, she once enjoyed crocheting and camping; she grew African violets and followed the Cincinnati Reds baseball team.  She loved her many dogs, especially her family of toy poodles, and also cared for a great many feral cats.  On television, she was dedicated to her soaps, specifically “The Young and the Restless” and “The Bold and the Beautiful.”  She also enjoyed “The Price is Right” and Steve Harvey’s shows.

Dear Aunt Dorothy will be much missed by her family, who were blessed to share her grace for so many memorable decades.

A gathering of family and friends will be held on Friday, April 26, 2024, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Adams Funeral Home, 1401 Fair Road, Sidney. Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. with   Pastor Randy Reed officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Point Cemetery, Pasco.
